Children's
Matsuri
I
would highly recommend the Matsuri Festival to children of all ages who would
like a fun, hands on, educational
experience learning about the rich culture of Japan.
-Amy Heiman, Educational Specialist Eagles Peak Charter School
The "Children's Matsuri " event is to honor our sister city relationship with Nakayama and promote the awareness and appreciation for Japanese customs, arts, heritage and way of life. We host a day of various performances and fun-filled activities including arts, crafts and games for children of all ages to maximize the learning experience. Entertainment includes martial arts, traditional Japanese dance and music and Japanese taiko drum performances.
We host an annual haiku (poetry) contest that offers children from 5 years old to 18 years old an opportunity to try this Japanese art form and exercise their creativity. Winners receive gift certificates to Barnes and Noble. Judges in the past, have included members of city staff, including the mayor, Temecula Valley School District staff and the Temecula Sister City Association board, and published children's book authors.
